FAQ
What can I use the address for, and what can’t I?
Yes: your Companies House registered office, director’s service address, HMRC correspondence, and on your website and marketing materials. No: personal bank accounts, DVLA / vehicle registration, or your VAT Principal Place of Business if you trade from somewhere else.
Will my home address stay private on the public register?
Yes. The virtual address replaces your home address at Companies House for both the registered office and your director’s service address, so your home stays off the public register.
What happens to my mail?
Every item is scanned and delivered to your dashboard within one business day. Physical items are held for 30 days and then securely shredded. Need physical forwarding? It’s available on request at Royal Mail cost. Parcels aren’t accepted, this is a mail address, not a depot.
How fast is setup?
Under 10 minutes. You complete a short ID check (required under UK anti-money-laundering rules) and the address goes live as soon as it clears, typically within a business day.
What happens if I cancel or don’t renew?
You’ll need to update your Companies House registered office and service address before your service ends, otherwise Companies House will flag your filings. We send reminders well in advance so you have time to switch.

What do I need before I start?
Not much. First, we’d recommend checking whether a limited company is actually the right structure for you vs. sole trader, here’s a quick guide to help you decide.
If a limited company is right, we’ll walk you through a few simple steps: choosing a name, choosing who will be involved, and a quick decision on registered addresses. Each director then completes a short identity verification, and Basics puts the information together and submits it to Companies House on your behalf.
Can I use my home address, or do I need a registered office?
You can use your home address, but it will be public on the Companies House register. If you’d rather keep your home address private, add a Basics virtual address during formation, it covers both your registered office and your service address.
Can I change my company name, address, or directors later?
Yes. After your company is formed, you can file name changes, address changes, and officer appointments or resignations from your dashboard. Most changes reach Companies House the same day.
Can I cancel and get a refund?
Yes. You can cancel from your dashboard any time before we submit your application to Companies House, you’ll get a full refund of both the Basics fee and the Companies House fee. Once we’ve submitted, the Companies House fee is non-refundable.
